Reproductive Freedom for All Celebrates Attorney General Kris Mayes’ Reelection Victory in Arizona

Phoenix, AZ  — Today, Reproductive Freedom for All-endorsed Attorney General Kris Mayes won her reelection bid to continue serving as Arizona’s top law enforcement officer, defeating anti-abortion extremist and state Senate President Warren Petersen.

Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:

“Kris Mayes heads into a second term ready to defend Proposition 139 and give Arizona families the freedom to build the futures they want. As the Trump administration escalates its attacks on reproductive freedom, Arizona voters just gave one of the nation’s strongest champions four more years to fight back.”

Reproductive Freedom for All Director of Arizona Campaigns Athena Salman released the following statement:

“Kris Mayes blocked multiple abortion bans from taking effect in Arizona during her first-term as Attorney General. At every turn, she unapologetically defended the reproductive freedom Arizonans resoundingly voted for when we enshrined abortion rights into our state constitution. Attorneys general play a crucial role in shaping the landscape of reproductive freedom, and we look forward to mobilizing our 100,000 members to support her efforts to expand reproductive rights during her second-term.”

Reproductive Freedom for All endorsed Mayes in February as part of the organization’s historic My Body. My Ballot. midterm program, a $23.5 million campaign to mobilize voters, hold anti-abortion politicians accountable, and elect reproductive freedom champions in key races across the country. To help secure this critical victory, Reproductive Freedom for All mobilized its nearly 100,000 members in the state. Reproductive Freedom for All also invested in canvassing and volunteer programs in Arizona to mobilize voters for Mayes’ campaign.

As attorney general, Mayes joined federal litigation out of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington to prevent a ruling restricting the use of mifepristone by the Fifth Circuit from taking effect in Arizona. She challenged the revival of Arizona’s 1864 abortion ban and secured additional time preventing it from taking effect while its repeal moved forward. After voters approved Proposition 139, Mayes’ office agreed that several remaining abortion restrictions violated the new constitutional protections. In her second term, she will keep using it to defend the constitutional rights Arizonans won in 2024.

Warren Petersen voted against repealing the 1864 ban, backed asking voters to repeal Proposition 139, and intervened in court as Senate President to defend abortion restrictions that violated the constitutional rights Arizonans approved in 2024.
