Reproductive Freedom for All Celebrates Eli Savit’s Win for Michigan Attorney General

Lansing, MI — Reproductive Freedom for All-endorsed candidate Eli Savit defeated anti-abortion Republican Doug Lloyd to become Michigan’s next attorney general.

Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:

“As Michigan’s attorney general, Eli Savit will safeguard the progress Michiganders have made on abortion access. Attorneys general are on the front lines against the Trump administration’s attacks on reproductive freedom, and Michigan now has one ready to take them on in court.”

Reproductive Freedom for All Director of Michigan Campaigns Shanay Watson-Whittaker released the following statement:

“As a prosecutor, Eli Savit has consistently worked to protect patients, providers, and advocates in Michigan. He will continue to be relentless in his efforts to protect and expand reproductive freedom and to fight against attacks on fundamental rights as the state’s next attorney general.”

Reproductive Freedom for All endorsed Savit in June and has continued to back his campaign as part of My Body. My Ballot., a $23.5 million campaign and the organization’s largest-ever midterm electoral program. To help secure this critical victory, Reproductive Freedom for All mobilized its more than 157,000 members in the state. In July, Mini Timmaraju joined Savit for a Get-Out-the-Vote event ahead of Michigan’s August 4 primary election.

As Washtenaw County prosecutor, Savit has repeatedly used the power of his office to protect abortion access and defend Michiganders’ freedom to make personal decisions about their bodies, lives, and futures. After Roe v. Wade was overturned, Savit refused to prosecute abortion providers under Michigan’s 1846 abortion ban and urged the Michigan Supreme Court to allow the Reproductive Freedom for All amendment to appear on the 2022 ballot. He also supported legal efforts to permanently block the 1846 ban and has consistently filed legal briefs to defend reproductive freedom in Michigan.
