Reproductive Freedom for All Celebrates as Gov. Katie Hobbs Wins a Second Term as Governor of Arizona

Phoenix, AZ — Today, Reproductive Freedom for All-endorsed candidate Gov. Katie Hobbs defeated anti-abortion Republican Rep. Andy Biggs to win a second term as governor of Arizona.

Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:

“Katie Hobbs is a dear friend and one of the fiercest champions for reproductive freedom in the country—I couldn’t be prouder to celebrate her reelection tonight. She had Arizonans’ backs when they needed her most, and voters know she will use her second term to protect and expand their access to health care, including abortion care.”

Reproductive Freedom for All Director of Arizona Campaigns Athena Salman released the following statement:

“Reproductive freedom was a defining issue in this race. Reproductive Freedom for All Arizona and our more than 100,000 members in the state mobilized voters to elect a leader with a proven track record of upholding Arizonans’ constitutional right to abortion. We’re proud to re-elect Gov. Katie Hobbs and look forward to working with her to expand access to the full spectrum of reproductive health care.

Reproductive Freedom for All backed Hobbs’ campaign through My Body. My Ballot., a $23.5 million campaign and the organization’s largest-ever midterm electoral program. The campaign mobilizes the 8 in 10 Americans who support legal abortion and holds anti-abortion politicians accountable at the ballot box. To help secure this critical victory, Reproductive Freedom for All mobilized its more than 100,000 members in the state. Mini Timmaraju campaigned with Gov. Hobbs in the final stretch to build grassroots enthusiasm around her campaign, and Athena Salman also joined Gov. Hobbs for her Dobbs Anniversary Roundtable discussion to highlight that abortion was still on the ballot this election in the governor’s race.

Throughout her first term, Hobbs fought to protect reproductive freedom in Arizona, fighting dangerous abortion restrictions pushed by the state legislature and Supreme Court. She used her veto power and executive authority to protect patients and providers and expand access to contraception. In May 2024, she signed a bill repealing an 1864 near-total abortion ban reinstated by the Arizona Supreme Court just weeks earlier. That same year she backed Prop. 139, a successful ballot initiative establishing access to abortion as a fundamental right under the state constitution.

Andy Biggs, who has represented Arizona’s 5th district since 2017, has introduced legislation to ban abortion nationwide seven times during his time in Congress. In August, reporting revealed that he had scrubbed his anti-abortion stance from his website.
