Reproductive Freedom for All Celebrates Michigan State Supreme Court Victories for Chief Justice Megan Cavanagh and Justice Noah Hood

Lansing, MI — Reproductive Freedom for All-endorsed Chief Justice Megan Cavanagh won reelection, and Justice Noah Hood won his first full term on the Michigan Supreme Court. Their victories over Republican-nominated judges Casandra Morse-Bills and Michael Warren preserve the court’s reproductive freedom majority.

Reproductive Freedom for All Director of Michigan Campaigns Shanay Watson-Whittaker released the following statement:

“Chief Justice Megan Cavanagh and Justice Noah Hood have upheld the rule of law and the will of Michigan voters, and voters returned them to the bench to keep doing exactly that. After anti-abortion groups went to court to try to undo Proposal 3, Michiganders made clear they trust Cavanagh and Hood to protect the freedoms they wrote into their constitution.”

Reproductive Freedom for All endorsed Cavanagh and Hood in September as part of the organization’s historic My Body. My Ballot. midterm program, a $23.5 million campaign to mobilize voters, hold anti-abortion politicians accountable, and elect reproductive freedom champions in key races across the country. In Michigan, Reproductive Freedom for All mobilized its more than 157,000 members and made a six-figure investment in direct voter contact across the state.

The Michigan Supreme Court has the final word on how the state constitution is interpreted, including the right to reproductive freedom voters approved through Proposal 3 in 2022. Cavanagh, first elected in 2018, joined the 2022 majority that ordered Proposal 3 onto the ballot after the Board of State Canvassers deadlocked. Hood, appointed in 2025 after serving on the Michigan Court of Appeals, now begins his first full term on the court.

Republicans nominated Morse-Bills and Warren to narrow the court’s majority. Their campaigns came after Right to Life of Michigan and other anti-abortion plaintiffs sued to overturn Proposal 3, a challenge federal courts dismissed.
