Reproductive Freedom for All Celebrates Peggy Flanagan’s Victory to Represent Minnesota in the U.S. Senate

Washington, DC — Today, Reproductive Freedom for All-endorsed candidate and Minnesota Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan won her historic bid to represent Minnesota in the U.S. Senate. With this victory, Flanagan has become the first Native American woman elected to the U.S. Senate.

Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:

“Minnesota became the first state to protect abortion access after Dobbs because Peggy Flanagan understood how important it was to protect reproductive freedom. Now, voters are sending her to Washington to bring that same urgency and resolve to fight for our rights nationwide.”

Reproductive Freedom for All endorsed Flanagan in September as part of the organization’s historic My Body. My Ballot. program, a $23.5 million campaign to mobilize voters, hold anti-abortion politicians accountable, and elect reproductive freedom champions in key races across the country.

In the Minnesota House, Flanagan worked to expand health care and strengthen protections for Minnesota families. As lieutenant governor, she served in the Walz administration when Minnesota enacted the Protect Reproductive Options (PRO) Act, which recognizes a fundamental right to make individual decisions about contraception, pregnancy, childbirth, abortion, and other reproductive healthcare.
