Reproductive Freedom for All Endorses John Barrow for Georgia Supreme Court
Washington, DC — Today, Reproductive Freedom for All endorsed John Barrow, former Congressman for Georgia’s 12th district, for the Georgia Supreme Court in a statewide election that will be held on May 21st. This endorsement comes after the state’s high court allowed Republicans’ six-week abortion ban to be enforced. This endorsement marks Reproductive Freedom for All’s first judicial race endorsement of the 2024 election cycle.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“State courts are the front line in the fight for abortion access, and it’s critical that we elect fair-minded judges who value our rights. The Georgia Supreme Court is upholding one of the most extreme abortion bans in the country. This shows exactly how important this race is to protecting reproductive freedom. We need John Barrow on the court to recognize that abortion is a fundamental freedom—and our members are mobilizing to make it happen this November. ”
Georgia has held 12 consecutive uncontested races for its Supreme Court between 2012 and 2018. Republican incumbent Andrew Pinson, who was appointed by Governor Kemp in 2022, is a member of the ultraconservative Federalist Society and clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. As state solicitor general, he signed onto the effort to overturn Roe.
