🔍 A Closer Look: Arizona Republican Lawmakers Voted for a Deadly Bill


Earlier this year, Republican lawmakers in Congress, including Arizona U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani and U.S. Rep. David Schweikert, knowingly voted to take lifesaving health care away from over 10 million Americans across the country, severely cutting funding for Medicaid and “defunding” Planned Parenthood.

During August recess and beyond, we’re fighting back against extremist lawmakers who are voting against the people.

 

⚠️ The Stakes: Reproductive Health Care and Abortion Access Gutted


Planned Parenthood clinics have already closed this year because of previous Trump administration budget cuts.

And let’s not forget—this bill pushes us closer toward a nationwide backdoor abortion ban. The provision to “defund” Planned Parenthood could cause more than 200 clinics to close nationwide, including clinics in states where abortion is legal.

When clinics close, it will reduce people’s access to abortion care, in addition to birth control, cancer screenings, and other health care services.

Thanks to the Republicans’ deadly bill, in Arizona:

An estimated 360,000 will be impacted and lose their health care access

The Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association President and CEO said OB/GYN services will be some of the first programs to go

🤿 Dive Into the Details: August Recess with Reproductive Freedom for All Arizona


Rep. Schweikert said people who are concerned about their health care being ripped away are “whining” and “bed wetting.”

So we hosted Sleepy Schweikert Snoozefest, a pajama-themed protest to hold Rep. David Schweikert accountable for sleeping through a major vote on the federal budget bill.

Eighty volunteers and community members gathered in their pajamas to write postcards to Schweikert’s office, play Sleepy Schweikert trivia to educate voters on his anti-abortion record, and hear personal testimonies from people who will be directly impacted by Medicaid cuts.

We also picketed outside of Jim Click Kia in Tuscon—an auto dealership owned by the GOP donor who bankrolled Rep. Juan Ciscomani’s campaigns—alongside Worker Power and Good Trouble Action Group.
