From college campuses to Congress, Students for Life uses disinformation to recruit young people and advance their extremist agenda to restrict abortion, birth control, and IVF
Fight back against anti-abortion extremism with us.
Students for Life of America (SFLA also shortened to Students for Life) is a national anti-abortion group led by president Kristan Hawkins who has said that her goal is to make abortion “unthinkable.”
SFLA advocates for restrictions on abortion nationwide. Hawkins has publicly opposed IVF, certain forms of birth control, same-sex marriage, surrogacy, and abortion access even in cases involving child victims of sexual assault.
The organization’s latest campaigns include pressuring lawmakers to restrict mifepristone—a safe and effective abortion pill—calling on the misenforcement of the 1873 Comstock Act, and promoting absurd disinformation about abortion medication and birth control in wastewater.
Hawkins has called for abortion providers to be “punished” and refused to rule out prosecuting abortion patients in the future. In October 2026, an SFLA spokesperson JoJo Ruba suggested a gradual approach to criminalizing abortion patients, including “eventual” homicide charges.
We are the majority! Reproductive Freedom for All empowers students to organize, educate, and mobilize for reproductive freedom in their communities.
She is a 41-year-old anti-abortion activist who regularly tours college campuses, where she debates students about abortion to film videos for social media. Hawkins has stated that she aims to be the “Charlie Kirk” of anti-abortion extremism.
Students for Life organizes on college and high school campuses, trains students, and mobilizes supporters for political campaigns and legislative advocacy.
Through Students for Life Action (SFLAction), the organization promotes model anti-abortion bills, mobilizes supporters, and pressures lawmakers to advance abortion restrictions.
Students for Life has promoted an absurd junk science theory that mifepristone is contaminating wastewater, urging the Environmental Protection Agency to investigate, in an effort to restrict abortion access nationwide.
Hawkins has called for enforcement of the 1873 federal law to restrict the mailing of abortion medication. Misusing this law could threaten access to abortion care nationwide.
SFLA has incorporated environmental themes into its marketing materials to attack birth control and abortion pills. The group also grossly misuses language from feminist, racial justice, and LGBTQ rights movements to push their anti-abortion agenda.
SFLA has supported anti-abortion centers (AACs) also known as “crisis pregnancy centers” (CPCs). These are known anti-abortion establishments where non-medically licensed staff are trained to lie, shame, and mislead patients out of getting the care they want or need.
SFLA reports 1,700 chapters and 250,000 right-wing activists. Its campus network helps mobilize supporters for political campaigns and legislative advocacy. However, that organizing reach should not be confused with majority support for reproductive freedom with 8 in 10 Americans supporting the legal right to abortion.
Hawkins is known for being “casually cruel” about her hardline views, calling for abortion providers to be “punished”.
Hawkins claims to oppose criminalization of abortion patients, but declined to rule it out in the future and praised a law in another country that does just that—and during a September 2026 debate, SFLA’s JoJo Ruba suggested a gradual approach to criminalizing patients.
Bans like the ones that SFLA pushes have denied people emergency medical care, led to trauma and preventable deaths, and criminalized patients, providers, and helpers—creating fear, hardship, and confusion for doctors and families nationwide.
“Master of spin” Hawkins has been instrumental in framing youth messaging for the anti-abortion opposition, frequently co-opting language from social justice movements, and leaning on junk science to coerce, fearmonger, and push false claims to advance their unpopular agenda.
President of Students for Life
Hawkins has led the organization for more than two decades, overseeing its expansion into a national youth organizing network.
In high school Hawkins was a volunteer at an anti-abortion center. She began working full time for the Republican National Committee and then joined a faith-based office within the Department of Health and Human Services under President George W. Bush, and served on Trump’s Pro-Life Advisory Council in his first term.

Co-Chairmen of the Board
Leonard Leo is co-chairman of the board, an outspoken abortion opponent who also sits on the board of anti-abortion extremist group The Federalist Society.
Leonard Leo is a central figure of anti-abortion movement who has led the initiative to install conservative judges in federal courts and played a pivotal role in overturning Roe. Leo’s dark money network—backed by Chicago billionaire extremist Barre Seid—funded some two-thirds of Project 2025.
U.S. Supreme Court Justice
In 2020, Students for Life organized a 10-state tour urging senators to confirm Barrett. Barrett was among the conservative justices serving on the U.S. Supreme Court responsible for overturning Roe in its Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization decision.
U.S. Senator (R-MO)
Students for Life Action has publicly supported multiple bills introduced by Hawley to restrict medication abortion, including his 2026 proposal to revoke FDA approval of mifepristone. Hawley also joined SFLAction president Kristan Hawkins for a May 2026 webcast urging Congress to extend restrictions on federal funding for Planned Parenthood.
