Reproductive Freedom for All Endorses Abigail Spanberger for Virginia Governor
Washington, DC — Today, Reproductive Freedom for All announced its endorsement of former Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger in her bid for Virginia governor. Since the fall of Roe abortion access has been decimated in Southern states, leaving Virginia as a safe haven for people seeking abortion care. Spanberger’s opponent, Winsome Earle-Sears, has openly supported a 15-week abortion ban and is on the record saying Virginia should copy Texas’ abortion ban, SB 8, a law that would ban nearly all abortion care in Virginia.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“Abigail Spanberger has been a true champion for reproductive freedom during her time in the U.S. House. As Governor of Virginia, she will be the last line of defense for abortion access in the South. At a time when the Trump administration and GOP-led states are attacking abortion access, Democratic governors have been a key backstop to those threats, stepping up to defend our fundamental rights and freedoms. We are proud to endorse Rep. Spanberger for Virginia Governor and look forward to electing her this November.”
Former Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger released the following statement:
“I’m proud to earn Reproductive Freedom for All’s endorsement, and I’m grateful for their work to protect Virginians’ fundamental freedoms. In the aftermath of the Dobbs decision, I’ve heard from Virginians across the Commonwealth who are deeply alarmed by extreme politicians threatening the future of reproductive rights across the country. I believe Virginians deserve a Governor who will defend our rights. As the next Governor of Virginia, I will always protect Virginians’ right to choose, stand up for their right to access contraception, and prevent politicians in Richmond from dictating their personal healthcare decisions.”
Earlier this month, Reproductive Freedom for All launched its first slate of endorsements in the 2026 cycle and an endorsement in Arizona’s 7th congressional district 2025 special election, backing frontline candidates who will be vital to protecting and retaining a strong presence of reproductive freedom champions in Congress.
