Reproductive Freedom and Trans Rights: An Inseparable Struggle

As we continue to fight for reproductive freedom in Georgia and beyond, we are proud to support our trans neighbors.

🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 This Pride Month, we recognize the connection between reproductive freedom and LGBTQIA+ liberation. In Georgia and beyond, we’re working alongside our trans and queer neighbors for a world where everybody can live with dignity, free to control their own bodies and lives—and we invite you to join us.

Right now in Georgia, the fight for reproductive freedom is under relentless attack—and so are the lives and liberties of transgender community members. As lawmakers intensify their efforts to control our bodies, our families, and our futures, we must be clear: the struggle for reproductive freedom is intertwined with the fight for trans rights.

Attacks on trans youth are not just cruel—they are life-threatening.

In recent years, our state has become a testing ground for dangerous and ideologically coordinated assaults on bodily autonomy.

From the passage of a six-week abortion ban to the introduction of Senate Bill 185—which prohibits state funding for gender-affirming care for incarcerated transgender individuals—and Senate Bill 36—the so-called “Religious Freedom Restoration Act” that could enable discrimination under the guise of religious liberty—these policies are all part of the same extremist playbook.

It’s a strategy rooted in control, fear, and discrimination, targeting the most vulnerable among us.

Trans and nonbinary people in Georgia:

  • Face disproportionate barriers to health care, including reproductive care.
  • Experience high rates of poverty, discrimination, and violence.

But instead of addressing these crises, GOP leaders are advancing legislation that strips away trans rights and promotes harmful rhetoric.

Attacks on trans youth, bans on gender-affirming care, and efforts to erase gender diversity from public life are not just cruel—they are life-threatening. These policies inflict real harm on our friends, neighbors, and loved ones.

Georgians deserve better: the ability to live with dignity and safety.

Reproductive freedom is fundamentally about liberation and autonomy. It includes the right to decide if, when, and how to grow our families; access to gender-affirming care; and the ability to live with dignity and safety. This fight is for everyone—cisgender, transgender, and nonbinary alike.

That’s why we are building a movement that centers the voices of those most impacted.

We work in deep collaboration with trans organizers, health care providers, parents, and advocates who demand better from this state.

Together, we’re fighting for policies that affirm our full humanity:

  • Expanding Medicaid,
  • Protecting access to contraception and IVF,
  • Defending the right to self-managed abortion, and
  • Ensuring inclusive, affirming care for trans and nonbinary individuals.

Our vision is a future where everyone thrives with dignity and respect.

Attempts to malign transgender people are not rooted in concern or care—they are political tactics designed to distract from the real issues affecting everyday Georgians: access to affordable healthcare, jobs that pay a living wage, safe schools, and strong communities.

We will not let politicians divide us.

We are committed to a future where no one is thrown under the bus for political gain. Our collective progress depends on coming  together with the unwavering belief that all people deserve dignity, care, and freedom.

As our movement in the great state of Georgia continues to grow, our message to any lawmaker who attempts to scapegoat the trans community is clear: our bodies and identities are not political weapons. Trans people are members of our community and they will not be erased.

“Our bodies and identities are not political weapons. Trans people are members of our community and they will not be erased.”

The Fight is Far from Over

As we continue to fight for reproductive justice in Georgia, we are proud to fight alongside our trans neighbors. We believe in a Georgia where everyone can live freely, safely, and with dignity—no exceptions.

With solidarity, courage, and truth on our side, we will build the future we deserve and we invite you to get involved in shaping Georgia’s future.
