On the Eve of Third Anniversary of the Overturning of Roe v. Wade, Being Pregnant in America is More Dangerous Than Ever; Reproductive Freedom For All Launches Campaign to Mobilize against Trump & GOP

Washington, DC Three years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court—stacked with Trump-appointed anti-abortion justices — handed down its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization that ended Roe v. Wade and the federal right to abortion. Since then, 21 states have eliminated or restricted access to abortion because of abortion bans. The Trump administration and Republicans continue to push policies designed to eliminate reproductive health care, including abortion, contraception, and IVF – all in their ultimate pursuit of a national abortion ban.

In the past three years, women and pregnant people have suffered, and in some cases, died. High out-of-pocket costs and restrictive bans have meant that it’s impossible to access abortion care in entire regions of the country. Meanwhile, state abortion bans carrying the threat of heavy criminal penalties have led to the preventable deaths of pregnant women after hospitals delayed or denied emergency care.

Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:

“In the three years since the fall of Roe, being pregnant in America is more dangerous than ever. In the twenty-one states with abortion bans and extreme restrictions, women continue to die, and along with their providers, are being threatened, targeted, and criminalized. And while the Trump administration continues to gut our fundamental freedoms, we continue to fight against the GOP’s attacks on Planned Parenthood, Medicaid, and essential reproductive care. The good news is that the American people are with us. We are mobilizing and standing side-by-side with our 4 million members to raise the alarm about the damage Trump and Republicans are inflicting on our communities.”

Reproductive Freedom for All has launched a significant campaign to raise awareness of the harm done by the Trump administration. This campaign includes:

  • Mobilizing our members to contact their Representatives and fight back against some of the most dangerous parts of Trump’s budget, including cutting Medicaid and defunding Planned Parenthood. Reproductive Freedom for All members generated 4,870 calls into legislative offices and held over 28,000 conversations with our members around these issues.
  • Bringing more than 100 Reproductive Freedom for All members from all over the country to Washington, DC, to meet with lawmakers and receive training they can bring back home during the August recess and beyond
    • Separately, joining our colleagues in Abortion Access Now (AAN) and Free & Just to bring over 100 storytellers from across the country to Capitol Hill to meet with Members of Congress.
  • Continuing our in-depth research into voter attitudes on abortion access since Trump’s inauguration.
    • Our new research shows that in the wake of the 2024 elections, Americans believe abortion is being left to the states. But when people internalize what is happening to reproductive care nationally, they lose trust in the leaders responsible.
  • Running digital ads in key districts (AZ-06, AZ -01, MI-07, CA-22, VA-02, CO-08, NY-17, IA,01 and NJ-07)  across the country to hold Senators and Representatives accountable for their votes on Trump’s budget.
  • Campaigning for our champions in 2025, including Abigail Spanberger for Virginia Governor, Adelita Grijalva in the AZ-07  special election, and Debra Shigley for State Senate District 21 in Georgia and making early endorsements for 2026 frontliners.
