Reproductive Freedom for All Celebrates Troy Jackson’s Earthquake Victory in Maine’s U.S. Senate Race

Washington, DC — Today, Reproductive Freedom for All-endorsed candidate Troy Jackson defeated five-term Republican Senator Susan Collins in one of the country’s most competitive Senate races.

Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:

“In one of the most competitive Senate races in the country, Troy Jackson campaigned unapologetically on abortion and took down a five-term incumbent. Susan Collins’ vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh – which led to the fall of Roe – was a betrayal so deep it broke the trust of Mainers. Mainers finally have an unshakeable champion for their reproductive freedom in Troy Jackson as he heads to the U.S. Senate.”

Reproductive Freedom for All was the first reproductive rights organization to endorse Troy Jackson, and Mini Timmaraju helped launch the “Troy for Women” coalition. Reproductive Freedom for All and Senate Majority PAC ran a nearly half a million dollar mail program highlighting Collins’ anti-abortion record that reached more than 100,000 Maine households as part of our historic My Body. My Ballot. midterm campaign.

Jackson ran on a clear commitment to reproductive freedom, pledging to restore and expand the federal right to abortion and ensure politicians cannot control people’s personal health care decisions. After Roe v. Wade was overturned, Jackson helped pass some of the strongest abortion protections in the country as President of the Maine Senate.

Susan Collins cast the decisive vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court and relentlessly defended her decision—despite Kavanaugh later joining the majority that overturned Roe v. Wade. She has also voted for dozens of Trump judicial nominees, including judges who have ruled to uphold abortion bans. This was the first time Collins faced Maine voters for reelection since Roe was overturned, giving voters the opportunity to hold her accountable for her record.
